It was after midnight on a hot and humid summer night, Toby had been restless all night. The air had been thick with humidity for weeks and the rain that started that evening hadn't done much to help. The air conditioner in his window rattle away at the highest setting, but it could do little to fight against the damp stickiness that hung in the air. He rolled onto his back and flung his arm across his face. How the hell could it still be this hot this late at night?

Toby laid there on top of his covers in nothing but his boxers and resigned himself to the fact that sleep was hopeless at this point. It was then that Toby saw a white light streak past his bedroom window. It landed in his backyard with a bright flash and a low rumble. He jumped out of bed, grabbing a t-shirt and pair of shorts as he ran out the door.

He pulled open the back door and stepped outside, his feet slid through the damp grass. He found a small but deep hole in the far back corner of the yard. He ran back inside and grabbed a flashlight. As he walked back to the corner where the whole was, he flashed the light on his palm to check that the batteries were still good. He shone the light into the hole, it reflected off a small silver object at the very bottom of the hole.

The hole was only a couple of feet deep, so Toby laid on the grass next to it and reached the upper part of his body into the darkness. The object at the bottom fit into the palm of his hand and was cool to the touch. He pushed himself up and sat in the grass turning the cool silver object over in his hand.

He heard a small squeak and felt a faint vibration as the round silver object suddenly opened. Inside a white fluffy creature with large round eyes and floppy ears peered out at him. The little creature waved at him. Toby waved back, not sure what to think.

The little creature hopped out of what Toby could only assume was its ship, and climbed onto Toby's shoulder. The little fluffy alien ran its tiny hands over Toby's face and in his hair, seeming to explore him.

As suddenly as he had appeared, the little alien creature hopped back into his tiny ship and flew off. Toby sat in the wet grass, no longer even noticing the humidity as he watched in awe as the little ship disappeared out of sight.
