We all see ourselves in a certain way depending on what has happened in our lives. Sometimes we can't believe happiness, true happiness, is something we'll ever experience. Happiness is that elusive something that others appear to seemingly achieve with ease, but we can never have.
Many of us spend our lives being the people we are expected to be rather than who we truly are. We adopt roles in an attempt to realise the expectations of those around us. As time goes by we tend to put others needs before our own and little by little the dreams and aspirations we once had become little more than distant memories.

The truth is, the secret of real happiness comes from within us. It comes from self-fulfilment, in allowing yourself to be the person you really are rather than who you are expected to be. In that respect relationships are the hardest and potentially most painful journeys in our quest for personal happiness. To open your heart to someone who believes in you takes courage, a great deal of it. But if you're lucky enough to find that special someone who will be the custodian of your heart, the keeper of your dreams, who will allow you to finally see yourself as you really are, you will be truly happy.
It seems that in life, finding that person who will be a true custodian of your heart, and who will cherish it and care for it, is rare. Seemingly happy relationships end all the time. However, in those rare moments of magic come to life, there comes someone who changes you, who makes you believe that you can be the person you were always meant to be. That person will believe in you so much that you will find you have no choice but to believe in yourself as well.

That person that gives you that feeling of true and ultimate happiness will be the one that encourages you to find that happiness within yourself. They will, yes, make you happy but they will also push you to find that elusive feeling that only comes from within yourself. Nobody can give that to you. It can’t come from any kind of outside source. That ultimate feeling of happiness, that soul changing, life altering happiness is inside of you. That may be hard for some of you to believe, but it’s true.
The happiness is there, it’s inside of you, you simply have to allow yourself access to it. Often times we find it difficult to be truly happy, because it takes a certain amount of selfishness. Being selfish has a fully negative connotation to it. However, sometimes being selfish is exactly what you need to be. There comes a time in life when you’ve done nothing but put others first, and taken care of their wants, and their needs, and you realize that you’re not happy. You realize that you are unfulfilled. This leads to those feelings of longing, of emptiness that many of us are all too familiar with. That empty feeling can only be filled by one thing – true happiness.

That happiness is, you guessed it, inside of you. Someone who truly loves you and wants you to be happy will push you and encourage you to look within yourself and find it. They will make you feel like you can conquer the world. Eventually, when you can dig deep enough into your war-torn and battered soul, you will find that that light, and those feelings of emptiness and unfulfillment will fade away. They will be replaced with contentment, and … happiness.
