Puppy Stampede: My Life with Tiny Dogs

It’s happening … I can hear it the stampede of little feet through the house. They are coming for me. It’s only a matter of seconds before their little furry faces will be pushing through my door, their little legs moving as quickly as they are able to, their bellies dragging on the floor, their tails wagging behind them.
This is my life, multiple times a day, this is my life. I live in a house with five (yes I said five) teeny tiny dogs, four of them a dachshund mix and one of them a yorkie. Life in a household of spoiled rotten little dogs is always an adventure. From the puppy stampedes through the kitchen and into my room, to the random attacks from the bed while I’m trying to work, there is never a dull moment.

They tend to plop over wherever they are standing at the time, their tiny legs splayed out behind them. They lay there looking like they’ve been run over by steam roller, flattened on the floor. They constantly attempt to jump onto my bed, even though they know that their little legs don’t work that way. They are simply too tiny to get up there unaided. But, still they try … On a daily basis they try.
I have to say though, there is something slightly disconcerting when you are sitting at your desk working and the silence is broken by the sound of a puppy tongue going behind you. This, of course, is the first sign that an attack is eminent. Once you are within tongue reach you might as well resign yourself to your fate. This means the attack is either going to come from over the shoulder, or under your arm into your lap; either way it’s coming and it’s not worth trying to fight it.

Their little faces and big puppy eyes make it impossible to truly get annoyed with them ever – even when they are tracking sand through your room, or rubbing their butts across your rug! Just as you are about to yell at them, they look up at you and start wagging their tails again. Or they put their teeny tiny paws on your leg and push their wet little noses into your arm. You can’t help but smile.

Yes, this is my life. For someone who is a cat person through and through, it has taken a bit of adjusting. However, their little kisses, and the snuggles they give when we are sitting watching tv at night are just what the doctor ordered to heal body, mind, and soul. Life with these little guys is a constant surprise and an ongoing adventure.
@babayagafarm Thank you so much! I'm very glad you enjoyed it!
I have 2 tiny dogs too. They are little lap monkeys and their gentle love keeps me going every day. I loved reading about yours.
