Let's Talk About Unconditional Love

“I’ve got your back” is a common phrase that we hear all the time. But, how many of us have a person or people in our lives that truly mean it when they say it? How many of us have actually experienced that real unconditional love? It is so rare to find someone who truly means it when they say they’ve got our backs.

When someone comes into your life and shows you true unconditional love, it’s like nothing else you’ve ever experienced. I’m not talking about that unconditional love that then turns out to be not quite so unconditional after all. We’ve all experienced that too; people who say the love us and support us, until we do something they don’t agree with and then they show their true colors. What I’m talking about are those people that are few and far between, the people who actually do love and support us no matter what.

So, rarely in life do we find someone who loves us so much that they support and encourage us no matter what, even if they don’t agree with our decisions. They are the ones who are always there to pull us from the wreckage if we make a mistake, or if we crash and burn after a decision we make. They encourage us to do better and be better. They push us to be the best version of ourselves that we can be.

If you are lucky enough to have someone in your life who truly loves you unconditionally, then don’t let them go. Hold onto them as tight as you can. Revel in that love. Allow them to support you and give you strength when you need it. Listen to their encouragement. Even better, have the courage to be that person for them.

Turn it around and show them the same love and support they give you. Be there for them no matter what. Love them, truly and without reservation or condition, and see how freeing that is. Giving and receiving this kind of love in your life is like a weight being lifted from your shoulders. It feels that way because that other person is helping you to carry the burden you used to carry alone. When you realize that for the first time in your life, you’re not bearing the weight of your world by yourself, it is an incredible feeling.

Those of us who have someone in our lives who loves us unconditionally, and shows us that love every single day, we are the luckiest people in the world.
